Rock Hard Horror Holy shit. Blind Dog brings back the magic that rock had in the 70's by hammering you on the head with their heavy end Zeppelinesque beats and Sabbath-like riffs. They've stripped things down to the bare neccessites and take advantage of every one. They use melody, they use aggression, they punch you in the face with blistering guitar solos. This IS Rock N' Roll. They have a similar sound to fellow Swedes Spiritual Beggars, but not quite as fast paced, and with a more strait-forward approach. While the band may be too heavy for the guys who grew up in the 70's, they're poised to introduce an entirely new generation to this brand of Rock. These guys have a similar approach at The White Stripes, except they play a LOT harder, and in my opinion better. "Iron Cage" is the first release, and a smart one at that. It's just over 3 minutes and cruises along and a good pace. The rest of the album is similar, but the songs are expanded and more in-depth. "There Must Be Better Ways Of Losing Your Mind" is probably the definitive track of the album, and even though it's not meant to be humorous, it kinda makes you smile in a manical way. "Fading Memories" is one easily the catchiest tune. It's got an infectious beat that grooves and is the most accesible tune next to "Iron Cage". I don't exactly know if this is ground-breaking music at this point, in fact, it's not really supposed to be. These guys are simply playing some kick-ass rock. For this style to really take hold will take a group effort and with so many others finally seeing the light, we might be hearing more of this band in the very near future. << Back to reviews of Captain Dog Rides Again |
