Accolades for Almost Forever
After releasing their self titled album in 2000, Almost Forever is Stone in Egypts second offering of absinthe bathed, acoustic indie drone doom. You get two acts of stark compositions of mostly voice/single acoustic guitar and occasional piano. The slightly overdriven production darkens the tones even more for a sort of retro/old vinyl sound. The album is pretty much one piece of music with multiple scenes that are tied together by instrumental passages like Exhaust Dark Throne and Almost Forever that glide you into narcotic hypnosis and until you finally nod out in pillows of cosmic dust. This could be the score for the next David Lynch movie, or at least make the perfect soundtrack for your Sunday morning shroom hangover.
Stone in Egypt's Almost Forever is more of a listening experience than it is a typical rock album. In that respect it's similar in concept to Los Natas's Toba Trance albums even though it sounds completely different in execution and style. Imagine 35007 playing only acoustic guitars and piano with mellow Pink Floyd/The Doors style vocals with one of those "Ommmm" meditation CDs playing in the background and you're on the right track. If you're open to a unique listening experience that will not knock your head off with heavy guitars then Stone in Egypt is definitely worth checking out!
