Accolades for We Hate You and Hope You Die
Vicious, mean, and ill-tempered. That's how I'd describe Ultralord's debut, the cheerily titled We Hate You and Hope You Die. Ultralord goes for the throat and doesn't let up. There's a thrash influence to their rage, and it lends itself well to creating a mood of unrelenting hostility. When theyre not lashing out with the galloping riffs, they opt for a slower sludge style thats more akin to the various members other bands (Fistula, Rue, Madman Mundt, King Travolta). The vocals - courtesy of Bahb Branca and Andy Strickland add considerable bite. Overall, Ultralord creates an overwhelming and almost overpowering wave of anger. This aint the soundtrack to a love story (hate fucking, maybe). Unrelentingly hostile is the name of Ultralords game. They reign with an iron fist. Awesome and evil and pretty much perfect.
As with any of Corey Bing's projects, you can hear the Fistula roots. However, these guys eschew the stoner elements of the Fistula sound and distill the more aggressive, aggro side of things. When they aren't thrashing your ears off, they are crushing your skull with slow motion sludge/feedback. Add to this the lead guitar heroics of Scott Stearns and you have yourself one very metal album. Awesome stuff.
For fans of Ramesses, Rwake and Today is the Day.
