Call of the Mastodon is Lifesblood plus four other tracks. Seeing how Lifesblood is out of print, thats not too bad a deal for those who came to the party late and want to see how the bands evolved. Besides, the songs have been remastered and the movie samples that preceded the songs have been removed. Of those Lifesblood's songs, Hail to Fire and Battle at Sea are the best. With these two songs, you can hear the inspiration for Remission and Leviathan. Im surprised that some of the other tracks, such as Deep Sea Creature, Slickleg, and Call of the Mastodon, werent originally included on the EP, as they strike me as being more developed. Call of the Mastodon is an interesting album as it shows how it all began, and in the context of their two full-lengths, how their style has become more refined with each release.
