Accolades for Northern Failures
Still staggering from a brief karma slump, much-maligned Connecticut sludge loafers Cable re-emerge from incubation to cauterize the frayed ends of their past indiscretions, finally producing the long awaited follow-up to Gutter Queen. Northern Failures is a murky, bloodshot tirade of whiskey-enriched ramblings and scattershot guitar pummeling. It's a throttling expanse of dirge for patrons of the hazy, filth-encrusted shooting gallery faithfully attended by all manner and suit of underworld denizen.
Now I am totally confused. Having heard Cable in the not so distant past (review of Skyhorse Jams), and thinking that they were southern rock/metal, I am starting to understand why so many people were confused with my last review. 'Northern Failures' is a totally different beast/ball of wax. Its noisier sounding and absolutely no southern tinge. It's Amphetamine Reptile Records material for certain. Cable's sound on this CD is more comparable to bands like Today is the Day or Unsane or Helmet. Its got super overdriven guitars, blood thinning vocals that are hardcore over the top high energy screaming a lot of the times. Thick guitar layered tracks.
