Accolades for Gateway
This is probably the best the genre has offered up since Dopethrone. The band took their time and created a masterpiece. Sounds tons better than Stash and much sharper than Apogee - high praise.
Gateway refines and maximizes Apogee into 8 epic, riff-laden tracks of weed-soaked grooves. Not much in the way of vocals, and what there is remains pretty buried in the mix along with the samples -- and it totally works. Its sheer sonic weight and immensity should make stoner rock fans very, very happy.
I find it hard to place them genre-wise, but simply for the sake of comparison: they're a little more mid-tempo than most sludgecore, but not aggro mid-tempo like Cavity or something. Their guitar sound is very round, thick, and heavy, but not terribly abrasive, which is closer akin to stonerrock. The vocals shred like crusty sludgecore. The weed lyrics are straight up stoner. Would you call this sludge? Just curious. Gateway reminds me a lot of Buzzoven, but with a stoner vibe.
