The Crass Menagerie

Jeb's Review:
Oh yeah... BLIND DOG dig down deep to unearth a nitty gritty, back porch blues, southern fried rock n roll vibe that they let run amok throughout their hard hitting "The Last Adventures Of Captain Dog" CD. I'd almost hate to call this metal or doom or Sabbath-esque or rawk because it is all that and more. A lot of heavy throbbing Sabbath influenced bands forget that the primary influence for BLACK SABBATH was the blues but not BLIND DOG. In fact, they tap into that same vein themselves and it makes for a very rich and textured album in spite of the fact it is heavy enough to crush you like a bug under heel. Add to this the aforementioned southern flavor and you have got a serious winner any way you look at it!

Brad's Review:
I am a complete sucker for bands like this, I admit it. How can you blame me? Any band that is so unabashed in their idolization of the first Black Sabbath album knows which end is up in my book. This CD, like the first Sabbath album, borrows heavily from the blues, is enshrouded in driving guitar riffs and never forgets that melody is what makes really heavy music work. Seriously. If you have melody as an undercurrent to distortion the contrast will make the heaviness 100 times more powerful. This is the kind of CD that I like to play in the car with the volume cranked all the way up and the windows open. Tearing down the highway blaring BLIND DOG, that has got to be what heaven is like, eh?
