Accolades for A New Day Dawning (Black)
I feel myself becoming effusive. I'm about to gush like a shaken-up soda. Over Siena Root. This band, with its sound, could easily be a contemporary of Cream or, more likely, Deep Purple, maybe a fusion of those, plus any number of other rock/hard rock bands from the era that crafted rockin', heartfelt tunes using both guitars and keyboards as prominent instruments. Everything is here, the way the guitar sounds, the way the keys bring their psyche, the golden throat of the vox, everything. This is such a loving return to form for rock and roll.
What I hear immediately is Deep Purple, somewhere between the Mark II and III lineups, followed closely by the dexterous jamming of Govt Mule. Its bluesy rock that has equal emphasis on organ and guitar, occasionally allowing the two to duel for musical supremacy. Theres also a good helping of soul to their grooves, thanks primarily to vocalist/organist Oskar Lundstrom. Classic rock purists will lap this up, but anyone who can appreciate bluesy rock will dig this. The playing is impeccable, the sound is captivating, and this is highly recommended.
Sweet '70s hard rocking -- classic Led Zeppelin / Deep Purple rock, with heavy touches of prog and psychedelia. As if it were a long lost classic from the Vertigo Records roster of 1972, these Swedes bring us heavy trancing mantras and grooving rock anthems like the masters Leaf Hound, Camel and Jade Warrior.
