Directory of Dirge by Marty Robinson "Stoner Rock" has a lot to answer for. It has produced almost as many piss poor genre clones as the tedium riddled death metal style. It is such revelation that allows me to smile (quite insanely) as I listen to Blind Dog's second effort and tip my hat to the big groovy metal God that lets bands like this rise up from the dirt. Now, don't get me wrong. There is very little originality in the Dogs camp (it IS stoner after all!!), but boy do they have an ear for a good tune. Borrowing heavily from all the old masters and new upstarts (Spiritual Beggars, QOTSA etc) equally, we have a first class effort with stacks of variety, pace, tone and the mighty groove. Ohhh, the groove. Enuff said. 8/10 << Back to reviews of Captain Dog Rides Again
