Yes! These are the two albums that put Melvins on the global map. Uncompromising heaviness combined with mathematical autism, and embellished with King's Buzzo poetry of sublime absurdity. This is not metal or punk. For those of you who know the language, this is more along the lines of Blast! or perhaps some of the better later-Black Flag - but far darker, and much, much slower. Gluey Porch Treatments is a black motor of an album, while Ozma is a bit more straight ahead. While these albums are some of the most unflinchingly confrontational collections in the rock canon, make no mistake: these are important, landmark albums.

Dark, heavy and loopy can describe the Melvins. They combine Iommi's guitars with a drunken, demented lyricism over a drummer who stops and starts and breaks up the backbeat like a jazz trapman. Ozma is slow and low with enough devestating riffs to occupy any fan of Kyuss or Pantera. Gluey Porch Treaments is Ozma's predecessor from 1987 and you can tell by the intensity of "Eye Flys" that this is not a sane rock and roll disc.

Two years after the incredibly original revelation, Gluey Porch Treatments, the Melvins came up with a similar album, Ozma, in that it mixes grunge, metal and punk in the same unique way, while still cranking out some of the best riffs of all time. Powerful and simple, but don't judge a book by its cover. No matter how simplistic you might think this is, you still need to delve deeper into it. Repeated listens and concentration on this 34 song album can unleash its power ballads, crazy riffs, overwhelming drum work and steady pumping bass. The more I listened to the thing, the more I realized that it contains loads of solid hooks and some individual ass kickin songs!
