Accolades for Futurists Against the Ocean
This band is nothing short of incredible. Goddamn, I don't need no stinking Burning Witch reunion if these guys keep on keepin' on. Complete percussive DESTRUCTION via bass/drums with three fucking killer guitar players (Trey from Mr. Bungle, Josh from Champs/Weakling, John Schuller), an organ player and vocals adding texture to the music. Any fans of Sleep, Neurosis, OM, Burning Witch, Sunn0))), etc... need to check this shit out.
This is the drone record for people who hate drone recordsheavy and slow, yet the added instrumentation opens the door for those who are turned off by the likes of Sunn0))), Khanate, etc. This is far from abrasive, and features impeccable production. This is an album that benefits from active listening, but also does not require it, as its epic feel almost comes across as a cinematic score. It works equally well played alone in the dark, or blasting from the speakers during an (admittedly unique) Halloween party. Fans of the heavy need to grab this immediately, but fans of other avant metal acts such as Fantomas and Sleepytime Gorilla Museum would find this equally enjoyable. The best part of this record is that it's only the beginning. Asva are the sort of band that really have limitless potential in terms of sonic possibility. You may not know what to expect, but you know itll be good.
