Accolades for Lust, Crime and Holiness
Akron Ohio's Sofa King Killer have been kicking my ass for years with their heavy tuned down swinging doom blues...it's progressive metal, if you will, along the lines of Eye Hate God, and Bongzilla; but Sofa King Killer has a thing of their own and that is certain. The guitars are overdriven and down-tuned and chuck out heavy riff after riff of pure evil angular lines. These guys like to change it up quite often. The vocals are pure blistering hardcore screaming and are right up front and perfect for the overall sound. The riffs on this one are just relentless and punish you all the way through. There is a cut on here (Blues Couch) that is more of a spacial filler bit that is acoustic and full of effects. Nice little segway between punishing and punishing.
SKK may not fit exactly into one subgenre pigeonhole, but they are definitely the sum of quite a few parts: namely, sludge, hardcore, metal, and boogie rock, with a smattering of psychedelia and stripped-down blues in there. what separates them from the rest of the pack is the idiosyncratic musicianship that each member of the band offers.
