Accolades for #3
Pharaoh Overlord's #3 has a more subdued approach (than The Battle of the Axehammer), bringing in elements of funk, jazz, and classic rock to their minimalist instrumentals. They make their songs seem like well thought-out jams. Theres spontaneity, but its always focused. As was the case with The Battle..., #3 is a classic case of the less is more school of songwriting. The rhythm remains constant, but the guitars build and build, adding more layers. They create trance/drone music that runs a gamut of styles. Fans of 35007, SubArachnoid Space, and Colour Haze need to add Pharaoh Overlord to their collection.
Laidback mellow jams to trance inducing repetitive rhythms. Pretty much a perfect cross between the spellbinding guitar loops and rhythmic pulse of Circle and the stoner vibe of the '70s rock obsessives. This is trip music in the old sense. It owes as much to the likes of Sabbath as it does to Can.
