High on Fire, C-Average and Lachrymator @ Berbati`s Pan in Portland Oregon USA
January 11th, 2002
Me and my lovely wife Sheila arranged a babysitter and with my new digital camera in hand, I had a couple of beers and headed down to Berbatti`s Pan a little early...
We got there and I immediately ran into a friend of mine watching the door, Trevor. It was around 9 PM at this point and I asked if High on Fire was there yet...He said yeah and pointed me downstairs... Sheila had her friend Lea with her so I took the opportunity and headed downstairs where I ran into Matt who greeted me with his Les Paul strapped on. I grabbed a beer and chatted with Matt, Dez and George about their new record, current shows and how it was in general... They said that they were heading back home after these shows and rehearsing for the new record, and then recording it with Billy Anderson shortly there after.
I talked to Matt for a few more while he was strolling around warming up...fingers flying up and down the fretboard. Pretty soon Lachrymator and some other people headed down and filled the dressing room. I was talking to Kip and another friend for a minute when I turned and HOF had fled the scene...driven outta the dressing room.
I decided at that point to head on over 3 or so blocks away to Satyricon/Fellini- another night club/resturant that I used to work at. Ran into mt friend Mark who heads up the legendary VOG band...

Mark proposed that I let him look at the stamp on my hand so he could "blow off this joint, and see fucking High on Fire slay!..." How could I say no? After he bought me a beer, we proceeded over to a booth where Mark copied my stamp, and to a good degree! We then headed back over to Berbatti`s where Lachrymator was just hitting the stage...

They put on a great show with a bunch of Champs level numbers and a non-stop high energy set... Fully instru-Metal if you know what I mean...no vocals but slaying two guitar harmonies and dual riff leads.
After their punishing set to an almost filled up club now, I decided to go out and get a breath of fresh air, make sure my wife wasn`t totally tanked hanging with her friends yet, and skip out on C-Average...because it ain`t my bag baby...
Now halfway loaded and with no idea how to use my new Christmas present yet, I proceeded to bang out what was left on my memory card to High on Fire who played to a fully drunken packed house...I don`t get out much these days so I was more tanked than usual, but hey- High on Fire!!!

It was another intense set of new stuff with a Celtic Frost cover thrown in. Good times were had and High on Fire is more unstoppable than ever. I can`t wait to hear these new cuts over my stereo with Billy Anderson production...go see these guys next time they come through and you won`t be sorry:)
