Accolades for Self Titled
The debut EP from this quartet is a completely solid and timeless sounding six-song slice of late '60s/early '70s hash psych that brings to mind Blue Cheer and classic Alice Cooper. Incredibly fuzzed-out riffings and frenetic rhythm section work keep things powerful throughout.
It wasnt surprising to see that Parchman Farms self titled debut was recorded in San Francisco. Its pure, unfiltered late 60s rock, direct from Haight Ashbury, but without the irritating hippy trappings. What gives the five songs on this excellent disc distinction are the warm bass tones and the sweet, Crosby Stills and Nash-like harmonies. The groove is everywhere. All of the songs are great. To some it may sound dated, but I prefer to think Parchman Farm have tapped into a timeless sound. Highly recommended, especially for fans of Grand Funk Railroad.
