Half Man Vs Mothercake
7" - Vol. 1
HM&M 1999
An amazing 7" vinyl from two new stoner band. The first one, Half Man, is not
so new, they're still playing this music from ten years and their sound is nearer
to a seventy influenced heavy psychedelia than to the common stoner concept.
The two songs here included show how great is this band and how original is this
sound. Red Herring is a mid-tempo track, with a hypnotic guitar riff added to
some floating and effected vocals and psyched lead guitar incursions. The other
Half Man track is an instrumental, a quite fast rockin' song with a good guitar
work, that can be compared to their Two Perverted Men In The Swamp.
Mothercake are stronger than Half Man, they attack with aggressive vocals and
raw riffs and are a good rock band, but their work is less original than the Half
Man magics. Probably I prefer Baglady, but the two songs sounds similar; if this
band grown with this powerful riffs and a bit more originality they'll be a good
reality for the future.
If you want to know a new path in the heavy psychedelic way, try to find this
record, highly recommended, limited copies!
