Accolades for Foregone
Whatever I say will not convey the feelings this fantastic LP gives me. First things first, with the new line up Mirror of Deception are forging ahead in massive leaps stretching themselves musically to create doom anthems far beyond anything they have commited to tape thus far. The massive riffs and melody lines wash over you like a tsunami from hell, drowning memories of their previous releases. They start the proceedings in the heaviest possible way, monolithic riffs with a crushing epic chorus to rival any other band's output; think classic Candlemass jamming with Revelation. But what springs to mind for me, is the utterly desolate beauty of Michael Siffermann's vocal delivery, his german accent makes it all the more heartfelt and realistic. I am almost moved to tears - such is the passion and naked emotion. Truly great stuff, never once does the album's tracks become tiring as every care has been taken to produce the greatest possible impact musically.
The opening song sets the right tone for the rest of the album, which is very strong and to the point. The whole concept breathes a certain nihilistic unhappy feeling, doom and despair drips from my speakers without becoming whiny or pathetic. For me personally the highlights are the drumming and the singing. There is a lot of twin vocals and it gives the music a great vibe. As for the drumming there is a lot of detail involved without going over the top. What strikes me the most is that although they are a rather traditional doom band they do have their own feel and style which is much warmer.
