John: First off, give me a brief history of the band.
Miguel: The band was formed by Charly (guitar) and Miguel (bass) from the ashes of The Tempter in 2001. After some line-up changes, Glow is currently formed by Charly and Juan Luis (guitars), Miguel (bass), Ricky (drums), and Ralph (vocals). Up to now, the band has recorded one demo and two CDs; the last one Dive Into the Sun [was] released by Alone records.
John: What groups would you say are your main inspirations?
Miguel: Black Sabbath above all, but other hard rock bands from the `70s and doom bands from `80s and `90s as well. Witchfinder General, Buffalo, War Pig, Saint Vitus, Trouble, Cathedral, Goatsnake, Blood of the Sun, Voodooshock, Las Cruces, Spiritual Beggars, to name a few.
John: What led you to Alone Records?
Miguel: Alone is a small but very professional label. They enjoy this kind of music and work hard for their bands. They offer a good distribution both in Spain and abroad, and thats enough for us. In addition, they give us total freedom to compose.
John: What would you say is the main difference between Gone but not Forgotten and Dive Into the Sun?
Miguel: Theres a lot of improvement in Dive Into the Sun. The production and composition are far better. Songs are more structured and solid, and our skill as musicians has increased fairly.
John: Along those lines, what are your top three songs from each album?
Miguel: Each of us has our own favorite ones, but maybe Godfish, Stone Circle, and Rush from the first album, and Dead Angels, Doomdriver, and Inside from Dive... could be our top songs.
John: Who does the writing for the band?
Miguel: The composition is a collective work. Someone (Charly and Juan Luis, specially) brings some riffs to the rehearsal room, and there, everybody in the band contributes with their own ideas to create the final songs.
John: What`s the scene like in Spain?
Miguel: There are some great bands and a handful of loyal fans who support them. Thats all. Spanish media is paying more attention to this kind of music each day, but its a slow process.
John: What`s the biggest obstacle in getting your name out there?
Miguel: Maybe our geographical situation. Internet makes your music more accessible to listeners, but people want to see the bands playing live. Due to our geographical situation, playing live abroad is very hard and expensive and thats a handicap for us. Besides, there are a lot of good bands out there, so there are many choices.
John: What are some other bands out there that deserve recognition?
Miguel: As I said before, there are great bands in Spain like Rip KC, The Soulbreaker Company, Viaje a 800, Orthodox, Warchetype, Arenna, Supa Scoopa, Amon Ra, or Dawnrider (Portugal) and Mydriasi (Italy) that deserve more recognition from the people and the media.
John: What are your touring plans? And are you ever planning on coming to the States?
Miguel: We are continuously touring in Spain and there are plans to arrange an European tour this year.
Wed love to play in the US since we know therere a lot of people who enjoy our music there. Anyway, its very expensive so wed need a suitable promoter who took charge of expenses. Any volunteers?
