Accolades for So Very Zen
Here's a bit of a surprise, a Swedish band that doesn't sound like Kyuss or the Stooges! Zen turn in an interesting album of pop with hard rock and psych influences. Excellent musicians with interesting ideas usually make good albums and this one is no exception. Catchy and intriguing in a way that recalls Mammoth Volume's last couple of records. Definitely worth a listen.
This is very daring in a world of formula and sameness. When bands shine through, often they do so in the genre of their choice. I don't have a clue what genre these guys fit in. And actually that's a real fine thing. Experimentation with folk, traditional tribal (not too much), jazz harmonies, along with post rock, psychedelic (think Pink Floyd, especially on 'Losin'), some really raw sounds as well - it's all apparent here.
