Rob: What is the deal with the name? who came up with that one???
Russell: We were called NO2 at first and our bassist (Brent) had been entertaining the name "Goat Ass".We ended up using that name for a couple of shows because we didn`t really give a shit. Then one night, we get to a show at the red eyed fly and there on the the marquis reads "Super Heavy Goat Ass"! we all laughed and thought it was great for some twisted reason (possibly alcohol) and found out that handsome Joel had added these two adjectives to our name (w/out warning us). After that it just kinda stuck!
Rob: How would you describe your sound?
Russell: What is that?! Toot our own horn you say?! I`ve heard so many bands talk about there sound, hear them play and then ask myself "what the fuck!" it`s hard to get an honest answer from a band member about there own band. The truth is that all the good shit that you don`t sound like is what you want to sound like because your fuckin sick of hearin your own shit. Add your own label here _________ !
Rob: Aren`t one of you guys also in Southern Gun Culture? what is the connection?
Russell: Trent the drummer from Gun Culture played w/ us for about a year and he killed. We did quite a few dates w/ him and those guys have been really cool to us. We decided to bring Tim back because his style worked better for us and Gun Culture was getting more popular and busier by the day. We have a fuckin blast with those guys on the road and they have all put up with our antics from time to time. I have a toast for SGC:
I`m sorry we farted all up in your van!
but all that Denny`s weren`t a good plan!
Beer and trucker-speed aint always a good mix!
SGC and SHGA are just a bunch of fuckin hix!
...hehe! I think they would agree.
Rob: What are some of the other bands in your area that you guys play with,
maybe some bands that you guys do bills with at the room 710...
Russell: We play with some pretty sick and twisted biatcha`s: Dixie Witch, Honky, SGC, Hognose, Activator, Buzzbomb, Godzilla Motor Company, Broken Teeth, Oklahomos, Amplified Heat, American Idols, Transmaniacon MC, Nebula, Throttlerod, Suplecs, Halfway to Gone, Abba, Tears for Fears, thompson Twins. (ok, maybe not those last 3)
Rob: How did you guys start as a band? who met who?
Russell: I don`t know if you want me to go way back or not, but here goes: Tim (drummer), Curt (bassist from Dixie Witch) and me (guitar, vocals) started out as a three piece in Lubbock Texas. Curt moved to Denton to play in a band called Light Bright Highway. Tim and I moved to Austin to find a bassist and to start playing shows here. That was about 7 years ago and the band had lasted 6 years(did I say way back?). A good friend of ours, Brent, who was also our number one fan, moved here (after tons of coaxing). I called Brent one day and asked him if he would play bass for us although he had never even touched one. He called me back and said that he would do it. The next day he had a bass in his hand learning songs. It was a slow start but it was definitely worth the wait. Now he just kind of freaks me out how talented he is, as goes for Derek. We brought him on about a year and a half ago and his guitar work is phenomenal. We met him playing with Buzzbomb at the Flamingo Cantina. We also did shows with them in San Angelo and Temple...cool guys. Now were a four piece and we like it like that.
Rob: You guys just did a split with Southern Gun Culture recently, any plans
for upcoming releases? What about the self titled cd I just got from you
guys...any labels or is this a self release?
Russell: Yeah we`re planning on doin` something in October November range with Arclight Records. Dave and Mauro rock balls! Being on their label has helped us a lot. Our product is in Japan, Europe, Australia and then some. Check out the web site, www.arclightrecords.com. As for the self titled thing, I guess you could say it`s nice to be free agents. We did exactly everything that we wanted to do on that record. Bobby Rock (Honky),Jeff Pinkus (Honky and former Butthole Surfer, Daddy Longhead member) engineered, produced and mixed it. then Todd Dillon (Hit Shack) and I went in and remixed it twice! All of these guys are just fuckin` badass at what they do. If anyone should want a copy of our st full length, shoot over an e-mail: nrrabbott@earthlink.net
It`s burnt. It`s cheap. No middle man.
Rob: What are some of the bands you guys grew up listening to, are you all
originally from down south?
Russell: We are all West Ttexas born and bred. Derek likes Kiss, Alice in Chains, Kyuss, Robin Trower. Brent likes Alice Cooper, Tommy Bolin, Black Sabbath, Government Mule. Tim likes 500 ft. of Pipe, Throttlerod, Motley Crue, Jimi Hendrix. Russell (me) likes ZZTop, Slayer, Van Halen, Allman brothers...(just to name a few)...
Rob: What do you think of the current `stoner rock` genre of music.
Russell: We think the movement and what it stands for is good for us. Back in the early 90`s when we were diggin` on Kyuss and Fu-Manchu, we never thought it would have been so popular now. They`re comin` out of the wood work huh?
Rob: How do you think that the internet has effected your band, if any?
I`m kinda old fashioned about digital shit, but I think it has helped. If they would just build an analog computer then we would be alright. hehe...
Rob: Are you guys planning on any tours in the future?
Russell: We do have some dates around September/October. Some out of state stuff. We`re tryin to set up a west coast tour for this winter. We will be ridin Dixie Witch`s coattails for awhile there. Thank god we`ll be opening for them because their bellowing farts of bowel moving vibrations are bigger than ours!!!
Rob: Anything you would like to add?
Russell: We would like to add a midget and a chicken suit. Thanks for asking.
Here is the part of the interview which we throw out 13 silly questions, you
can just have fun with it!
Rob: If you weren`t a rocker, what would you most like to be?
Russell: Hockey players and/or Devil worshipers
Rob: What was your worst gig and why? what was your best gig and why?
Russell: The worst show ever; Midevil Knights in San Antonio. There was about 200 people there and we went on at about 1:45am. By the time we hit the first note somebody opened the fuckin` gate. There were two guys left shoutin`, "Those dumb asses are missin` the real shit". I guess there was a curphew? (hopefully, because the first four bands that played that night sounded like korn on crack). Anyway, the sound guy came about a cunt hair frum gettin his ass kicked because he left the board in the middle of the set to go jack-off to Linkin Park. He got mine and Tim`s monitors mixed up so I was gettin blasted and Tim couldn`t here shit. The bar really liked us but we vowed never to go back. As for our best show, I think that one hasn`t happened yet!
Rob: Top three movies, books and albums of all time?
Russell: Spun, Snatch, Excaliber
Dead Zone, The Dirt(Motley Crue), The Prophet
Black Sabbath; Masters of Reality, Kiss Alive, Jimi Hendrix; Are You Experienced?
Rob: How often do you surf the net and what do you mostly do while online?
Russell: no comment...
Rob: What is your favorite City and Venue to play, and why?
Russell: There`s really no certain one. Really it`s the the one with the most people and the most response. Titty flashes are a factor as well!
Rob: What is the most rock `n` roll thing you`ve ever done?
Russell: Derek`s mom opens the front door to find Brent finishing up a long piss in the front yard at about 9:00 in the morning in San Angelo, barely able to see out of the slits in his eyes and me crawlin around pukin` in the living room floor at about the same time. that`s Rock and Roll Mom and Dad!
Rob: What`s the most rock `n` roll thing you`ve seen someone else do?
Russell: Gettin` mooned by little James with toilet paper hangin` out of his ass!
Rob: What`s your worst "bad trip" story?
Russell: The whole state of Arizona, there is nowhere to piss! even when you buy something at a store they still won`t let you.
Rob: What`s the most painful thing you have ever witnessed at a rock show?
Russell: WASP concert: Blackie Lawless nailed in the forehead with a blunt object...watched the guy who threw it get the shit knocked straight out of his ass..
Rob: How old were you when you first realize you wanted to rock?
Russell: 6
Rob: what`s the most embarrassing job you ever had?
Russell: Rattle Snake Hhunter. The idea was pretty cool but the pay was what was so embarrassing!
Rob: What`s your favourite ice cream flavor?
Russell: We can get an 8-ball fer 50 bucks. oh wait, I`m sorry, I misunderstood the question...it`s vanilla.
Rob: If you could date any rock star dead or alive in the world, who would it be?
Russell: Dennis Deyoung
movie star?
Lorenzo Lamas
Rob: what would be the ultimate dream gig of all time line-up be, with your band
opening? limit to three bands please (including your own...) and where?
Russell: Super Heavy Goat Ass, Motorhead and (the original) Lynyrd Skynyrd at the Alamo Dome.
