Accolades for Full Time (w/ Bonus DVD)
I gotta tell you their debut full-length is the surprise of the year. No fuck that, it's one of the best of the year, maybe longer than that. Straight up, no frills rock with a punk aesthetic. No one does it like these guys. The 13 songs here each have a mind of their own, different feels, despite being structually similar. They're all highlights. If there's something that really sets this band apart, it's the vocals. There's more attitude in Matt Conner's voice than there has been in the genre in years. Maybe since Bon Scott. The rest of the band, who are hardly also-rans, play their asses off too. All this adds up to the soundtrack to just about anything. Above all, it's built for the end of a work day, but it can fit the bill for just about any situation.
These are Southern-tinged punk'n'roll songs with staccato force that belies RPG's sly wit and rock-solid writing. This album never backs down and never lets off the gas. The songs keep getting tighter, the sound keeps getting more realized, and their irresistible, no-frills delivery. Hooks a-go-go, funny, clever lyrics, and undeniable soulfulness make this rock for the masses. Full Time is the essence of rock'n'roll in all its raw, dirty, and high-octane glory. Full Time sounds like The Ramones, AC/DC, Hank Williams Jr., and Raging Slab collectively crawled into the warm engine block of an old pick-up truck and someone cranked her up. The thoroughly blended explosion of guts and riffs is all RPG, rendered completely individual by the sardonic delivery of singer/guitarist Matt Conner, the frenetic drumming, and the foot-stomping, thumb-tucking riffs. It's printed right there at the bottom of the CD credits on the back of the case: PLAY LOUD.
Simple yet effective songs from the dirty rock school (think Bad Wizard, The Brought Low, The Glasspack, etc). These guys make the kind of music you want to hear driving late at night in a stolen convertible, with a trunk full of booze, drugs, and guns. And hookers. If I were in a band and I heard songs like Stand Still Blues, and Paralyzed (the current personal favorites), Id quit and get a day job, because you cant rock any better than that. Sweet good god damn this is incredible shit.
