Accolades for The Lick on the Tip of an Envelope Yet to Be Sent (Black)
Once you get past the inherent weirdness (with or without the aid of some mushrooms), theres some good stuff amidst Circulus merry jingle jangle. Bascially, if ye crave a mug of mead or wish to dance a jig at the Solstice Faire, Circulus is the band for you. Its rock by way of Greensleeves. This is some out there stuff, almost epically strange.
See, while the lyrical content here - fairies, scarecrows, the celebration of passing season and nature - might be typical folkish fare, Circulus' combining of trilling recorders, traditional instrumentation, the use of both percussion and modern drum kit, guitar noise and perhaps a hint of electronics, makes this music feel timeless.
It's a lot like Jethro Tull and music you would hear at a renaissance festival. Very good stuff.
