Blind Dog - Captain Dog rides again
As if we needed more proof as to the superiority of Swedish hard rock, Blind Dog bounced back from a so-so first album to create one hell of a sophmore effort. The songs on this album were a perfect lesson in tasteful playing - combing a stoner rock love of over the top riffs with the dynamic songwriting skills of a prog-rock act. Tracks like "Don't Ask Me Where I Stand" and "There Must Be Better Ways of Losing Your Mind" actually let you hear the interplay between the members (much like the early Sabbath albums), producing an incredibly vibrant sound. In addition these guys had more to say than the average stoner-rock "cars, space, chicks, pot" song. As a trio, they play with the force of a quintet and Captain Dog Rides Again was actually able to capture the vitality of 70s rock without hopelessly mimicking it like too many bands.
