M's are fucking toast. Goddammit. Needed to take at least 3 of 4 in Oakland over Labor Day weekend to even have a prayer, but they only came away with a split. So close, yet so far! If they played in the NL, they'd be coasting into the playoffs right now! Really tough, as the M's have the longest playoff drought of any major league team of the four major sports in North America right now.

Hey jeangenie, I'm really curious to hear about your take on the fisticuffs that apparently happened with the Tigers TV booth! Due to my Vegas betting, I watched a ton of Tigers TV games between 2013-15 (I was very dialed into the team) and never really sensed any friction there, but Rod Allen did kind of remind me to be a bit of a hothead/Joe Morgan type of personality, not to mention that video of him chasing that terrified Japanese pitcher around field over in Japan. I thought he was good though and was kind of shocked when I saw he was demoted to sideline reporter the last couple of years while they put the WORST color commentator, Kirk Gibson, up in the booth with Mario. Seems like they did some sort of intervention between those guys to get them to work together this year, when they should have just replaced one of them.

Couple things: both of their contracts were up at the end f this season. Rod's presence has been declining over the last year or so. I can only speculate that it is due to the tension between them which has been brewing for some time.

Rod is a douchebag. I would see him at Spring Training begrudgingly give kids his autograph or turn them away altogether. This occurred every year I was there, when all he had to do was not be in a place where he'd be seen. His ego is way outsized for his status. I also recall a specific instance during a broadcast regarding a sponsor called Bell Tire.  He recounted (with no shame) a time when he showed up at one of the store locations and wanted his tires replaced for free. He got his tires and he saw nothing wrong with asking for that accommodation. Fuck that guy.

All I know of Mario is his airtime, which was fine. Nothing exceptional. He generally stayed out of the "limelight". A little tidbit: we worked at the same mall at same time during the mid-80s. We were two stores from each other. He sold shoes, I sold records.

Regarding Kirk, man, it's such a shame he is so gawd awful providing color. He has such a strong tie to the team and city of Detroit. If he would get media training/coaching, it would go a long way. It's his monotone drone that's the issue but I think his game insights are quite good. Funny thing is, I noticed during last night's game, he actually did have more enthusiasm in his voice.

This Detroit Free Press article is interesting on the Rod and Mario topic: https://www.freep.com/story/sports/mlb/tigers/2018/09/07/detroit-tigers-mario-impemba-rod-allen/1222670002/

Yeah, Rod sounds like a total nightmare. We'll probably never see him broadcast at this level again. Mario will probably pick up a job somewhere. The play-by-play guys tend to get recycled, no matter who they are. I couldn't believe it when Kansas City hired Steve Physioc after the Angels let him go. THE WORST!

Anyway, this season sucked for me. Mariners toyed with me again, this year up to Labor Day. Go anybody but Oakland, Dodgers and Yankees in the playoff. I think I'm gonna pull for Colorado (if they make it).

Would anyone like to know my opinion of David Price?

Anyone?

He just can't put together a post-season start to save his life! It's just brutal.

Bill Simmons was defending him on Twitter, saying that the Yankees lineup was a worst case scenario for Price, but someone posted that Price has a +6.00 ERA in the post-season and like a +8.00 ERA against the Yankees and over 10.00 ERA this year! Boston better hope that Porcello steps up bigtime or their 108 win season will be for naught/zilch.

Yeah, it's panic mode in BoSox country right now. Between Price being Price and the bullpen being awful, it's going to take some magic to even get out of the ALDS, much less have a shot at the World Series. I'm hoping Price goes to the pen, where he's actually been effective before, and a reliever like Eduardo Rodriguez can make a quality start. I was hoping Steven Wright would be able to contribute, but it looks like he's out. It's basically up to the offense to put up a ton of runs for the remainder of the playoffs. Getting bounced by the Yankees after winning 108 games would really suck.
