Wow. This is good. Very good. Tides have released one of the more impressive debuts Ive heard with Resurface. The six instrumental tracks fall in the Isis/Neurosis/Pelican/Jesu category. Theyre dense, epic compositions with a high level of emotive playing. A frequent complaint against all instrumental groups is the lack of vocals, but when done right as is the case with Resurface - the stellar musicianship is expressive enough on its own. The playing throughout is excellent, always understated and never overbearing.
