Shrike, MARKSOUND:
This is a lot of demo songs from a Finnish stonerrock band called Elephant Bell and its their second demo. I heard that on
the demo release they wont be putting all of these 7 songs and they don't know which ones yet, so i'll go throught them all.
First off is a tune called 'Straight To Hell', really good mellow tune with some slight QotSAish things and a bit of
Dozerish action. Heavy tune all in all. Next song is called '666' and on the first listen this is the tune that got
stuck in my head. Kinda fast rockin' tune which reminds me of Xysma for some reason, great chorus too. The singer has
a great voice, but here and there sounds like he could use a bit more practise. 'Go' is a mellow straightforward rock
song with a steady pace and a bit of that fist in the face attitude. 'Dreamwheel' is not a Spirit Caravan cover but
another EB original. This song has a bit more psychedelia in it than in the other songs, some of it reminds me of early
Monster Magnet and has some epic riffing. Fifth song is called 'Horse Trance Dance' and is a straight forward rock song,
great riffing that pulls you in and makes your feets stomp to the music. 'Camouflage' is very rock oriented song too, but
has some hooks in it. 'Sandman's Revolution' has some very punkish elements in the mix, very rough streetrock vibes in it
too.
At first i thought they were in a really cheap studio, but then i heard this demo was recorded on their rehearsal place,
so the sounds are pretty good, considering.
All in all this is a very good demo by a band that is showing a lot of promise and ready potential. This band really needs
live experience and a good label, thats it. I strongly urge you to check them out.
