Accolades for Hostile Ambient Takeover
This disc is a strange one to describe. You can definitely say it is both a "rocking" and "experimental" Melvins disc. There is no such thing as a standard song here as they're all really different and range from two and a half minutes to over fifteen minutes long. As I suspected, Dale just fucking kills on this thing! What is really notable is the production and mix (courtesy of Toshi Kasai) which is probably the best of any Melvins record to date. If you've ever been a fan, you should check this out. Easily the best thing they've put out since The Maggot and it's probably better than that! Everyone has their own favorite era or album of Melvins, but you would have a hard time denying this is the ultimate Melvins record.
This record is fucking brilliant. The drumming alone is worth picking this up. It sounds like Buzzo does a little more soloing than he's usually known to do, and it's fucking excellent. Way to go Melvins!
Best Melvins album in 10 years, maybe ever? Houdini meets The Maggot with the rest of the past 20 years sprinkled on top. Everything I love about the band is in this album.
