Big Block Rock is just that. Loud aggressive rock that can be felt like the presence of a big fat chunk of cast iron under the hood.
How does that feel you ask? Well I know... I have a late 60`s muscle car with a big block that is built. The stereo in it is quite loud and good, and cruising down the highway doing 90-100 MPH with this album playing is nothing short of exciting...

The music on this record reminds me of Kiss, COC, and Sabbath... Heavy, but yet driving and full-blown rock and roll done nicely. Lots of leads and chugging rhythm and up front thick vocals... This Australian 5 piece formed this band a couple of years ago, but you wouldn`t guess it. It sounds like they have been together for a long-long time... I am sure that these guys are all not new to the rock and roll thing and have to be veterans to the scene. The guitars aren`t fuzzed out sludge, but overdriven Gibson sounding guitars that remind me of the same kind of tone that Angus Young or Woody Weatherman gets. The leads are mostly reminiscent of Woody with that thick Marshall sound. The Vocals remind me mostly of Pepper`s from COC with that sort of raspy sounding, but yet melodic and strong vocal approach.

The whole album is consistently good from beginning to end and never lets up for a moment. Song arrangements aren`t anything new or mind-blowing, but just straightforward rock with some interesting hooks and dual guitar leads that are unique here and there. Thats not the point though. Daredevil are all about the Rock and not about being clever and different. They care about having fun and letting people throw their fist in unison and not about impressing band members in the audience. Good stuff and a good time live I can imagine...

If your into COC (how many times do I have to mention that?) or Clutch, you know driving groove bands with balls then this is the record for you... However if you are into just mainly slow and heavy stuff that is Sludgy or tuned down so far you have to use a Geiger counter to measure it, then this might come across a little to radio friendly for you...look elsewhere... Don`t confuse this with cock rock...Just rock and roll. Long Live Rock and Roll!
