For: 3rd Degree Burnout From: Stonerrock.com by Dan Beland - 07/01/00 I saw Daredevil open up for Monster Magnet in Sydney Australia a few months ago so I pretty much knew what to expect from this CD. Daredevil had a real impact on me when I saw them live, and they did the pre-Monster Magnet slot justice. They got me hyped up thats for sure, theyve got a unique and cool stage presence! This six song EP entitled 3rd Degree Burnout and sporting a bright orange muscle car doing a flame enducing burnout is a real heavy metal classic.. Daredevil do classify as stoner rock for sure but their sound brings back memories of the classic metal bands that got me into heavy music in the first place! Mix the raging metal power of Judas Priest and early Metallica & Megadeth with the modern stoner rock stylings of Unida and Fu Manchu and you get Daredevil. If that sounds like a good mix to you then you are certain to like 3rd Degree Burnout which is much more on the Metal side of the stoner fence than the spacey / desert rock side. Daredevil are one of these bands that bridge the Stoner Rock / Heavy Metal gap so completely that die hard fans of either genre will enjoy this album fully! As of this writing Daredevil do not have a website, its under construction, so I recommend emailing them at daredevil_rock@hotmail.com for ordering/pricing info. Aussie metal fans should be able to pick up a copy from their local alternative record shop! ++ Back to Reviews
