Accolades for In Triumph
The Quill's In Triumph is a ride on the back of the giants of rock history by the grace of the masterly voice of Magnus Ekvall, the ever stowing rhythm section of Robert Triches and Jolle Atlagic and the nebular rock orgy of fabulous guitar sounds of Christian Carlsson. It is a perfect album, summarizing past, present and yes, maybe future of rock in deep-draught compositions with a lot of emotions and momentum. Take the drawling sung Merciless Room with its distorted guitars as example, one may call this a kind of Black Hole Sun revisited. But first we can enjoy the ultimate tight Trespass in which AC/DC and Led Zeppelin seems to be playing in your back-garden for fun. The legendary love for eastern sounds and esoteric psychedelics of this latest mentioned band comes alive in the grand Black. Is it a wonder that the band once was invited to go on tour together with Monster Magnet?
Sweden knows a lot of great quality in rock and metal. Also the Quill is a nice example of a band that doesn't care about trends and hypes, they just plow their way through with firm, groovy and energetic rock music. With super singer Magnus Ekvall at the helm, the fifth full album leaves quite an impression. One could describe The Quill as the perfect mix of the great names in rock like Rainbow, Led Zeppelin, Whitesnake and the already mentioned Black Sabbath (Dio era) with a few more modern influences like Soundgarden. Yes, that description fits them well I think. When the music shines even more by a crystal clear and heavy as hell production there's no going wrong with In Triumph. Responsible for that sound is Tommy Newton who has helped a lot of German bands in his career. His skills fit perfectly with The Quill. A tasty album by a great band.
