Accolades for The Crime of Idle Hands
The Crime of Idle Hands finds Carrion expanding their sound aggressively with results that are uniform in quality, though never in style or texture. The combination of the lightning-speed bass drumming and the more mid-paced guitar work really takes CARRION's trippy, acid-damaged vibe to the next level. Over the course of this weighty full-length, CARRION throw out more musical ideas than most bands squeeze into an entire career..." "If you like it heavy and weird, the only band I can think of that currently rival Carrion is Today is the Day. Even when compared with the mighty Neurosis, Carrion seem much more inclined to push bundaries and defy expectations.
I can't say anyone has a sound quite like Carrion. It's a mixture of crust, sludge, classic punk and metal influences. It even has that mathy kind of feel that bands like Botch and Mastodon possess. This album just defies boundaries. The drumming is massive while the bass remains thick and heavy throughout. The vocals fucking destroy too. Nick rips his throat apart, but there's an eerie melody in his delivery. This record is nothing short of awe-inspiring. Killer work in every aspect.
Their music is beautifully raw and supremely heavy at the same time. It's not metal, it's not hardcore, and it's certainly not punk. It's just heavy. Songs are way out there, with discordant riffs and dirgey vocals. These guys have a knack for making you feel the pain in their music. The guys put this advantage to full use, charging ahead with an energy and live-feel that knocks you for a loop. Pay close attention. These guys are making worthwhile and unique music that deserves to be heard.
