Kyuss: SkyValley

Sky Valley

This is the first major label release for Kyuss. Skyvalley was released in 1994 on Elektra Records. This production on this album is outstanding, Chris Goss and Kyuss outdid themselves this time.

The album has a thick, rich sound. Immensely listenable. You hear new things everytime you listen to it. The instructions on the CD say "listen without distraction" and indeed it is best to heed those directions as you can only fully appreciate the album while kicked back with eyes closed and the sound at a comfortably deafening level.

Guitar magazine had the following review of the SkyValley album.

There has been some effort at transcribing the lyrics.

I also made my own attempt at transcribing the lyrics.

Here are the lyrics to Space Cadet.

Here are some audio clips:

Gardenia (320102 bytes) (solid heaviness)
Gardenia w/lyrics (203280 bytes) (excellent lyrics)
Asteroid (118784 bytes) (space-y sounding with a wall of heaviness that follows)
Demon Cleaner (261148 bytes) (more mellow)
Conan Troutman (183696 bytes) (good stuff!)
Space Cadet (214228 bytes) (the lyrics)
Odyssey (280460 bytes) (worth the download)
Odyssey (short version, 80676 bytes)
100 Degrees (138000 bytes)

The album is arranged in three "movements" each with several "songs" in each movement.

The playing time for the CD is just under 52 minutes.

There is also a fourth song that's not listed but is on the CD. It is called "Lick Doo" and if you hear it you'll understand (it's kind of a joke).

The band line up on the album is:

Mario Lalli (of Fatso Jetson, SST Records) is also credited with lead guitar on "N.O.".
