Accolades for Self Titled
Unlike Halfway to Gone or any other of the Garden States southern rock luminaries, Antler prefer to hold back on the distortion and boogie, focusing instead on slow- to mid-tempo numbers that are more laid back in style. By reigning in the all-out rock, the songs have room for all instruments (including organ) to breathe more freely. That gives classics like Tombstone and Cigarettes and the raucous Blood on the Moon a rich, organic feel. If not for the studio polish, youd expect this disc to come with a handful of dirt and a spittoon. And when they do break free, its rock with soul.
