Accolades for Raunio (Live)
If you dig the chaotic sounds of 70's Pink Floyd records like Ummagumma and Meddle, chances are that you will find some good things in Circle as well. Crazy fuzzed out guitars, psychedelic hammering grooves that break into sheer chaos. If you like CAN or just plain weird stuff like Faust, check these guys out.
Of course, Circle is always weird, but on Raunio they're downright spooky-weird! Mika Ratto, in addition to his Goblin-esque keyboard lines, provides bizarrely effected, spaced-out vocals somewhere between a warped idea of Native American chant and the histrionics of someone like Rob Halford of Judas Priest. Besides the vocals of Mika, there's just lots of spacey, noisy stuff on here. The album is derived from two shows in Finland.
Circle are one of the greatest. Raunio is really a live record. It's recorded live in their tour in Finland with Ruins in late fall 2001.
