Accolades for Metridium Field (Re-issue)
The songs on Metridium Field arent of the space age freak out genus, but they certainly defy the rules of conventionality. Theres a vague similarity to Isis, but both the Eastern European and Middle Eastern stylings to Giant Squid make them their own species. Its ambient art doom, filled with moody passages and accentuated by the tasteful use of keyboards and the three distinct vocalists. Metridium Field is more a tapestry than an album, creating a feeling of quiet desperation. Those with a taste for Isis, Jesu, or even 27 will enjoy this.
Debut release from Northern CA musical juggernaut, Giant Squid. The songs range from overwhelming layers of doomy, guitar girth in the vein of Isis, Neurosis, or Sabbath, to delicate breaks of analog synth sounds. Vocals run the whole gamut from furious screaming to fiercely melodic, bursting forth from both male and female vocalists. The record's title track, "Metridium Field", is a sixteen minute mind melting doom rock masterpiece that will hypnotize at high volumes. An extremely eccentric and artistic album, brutally original in all aspects.
