Accolades for Warrior on the Edge of Time
The album follows the normal progressive recipe of "space" rock atmosphere packed with psychedelic elements and offers the listeners with some of their best work. "Assault and Battery", "The Golden Void", "Spiral Galaxy 28948", "Magnu" and "Kings of Speed" are all classic Hawkwind tracks. A second drummer was added for these recordings giving them extra power in the rhythm section. Lemmy's bass influence is huge again while Dave Brock contributes many (important) tracks and adds great keyboard sounds to their music. Nik Turner, as always, functions his woodwinds with majesty strengthening the final result. The band was assisted dearly by sci-fi writer Michael Moorcock in the lyrics section and the album is partially based on his creation, Eternal Champion. A classic album by Hawkwind, Warrior on the Edge of Time is beyond doubt a fine addition to one's collection.
The arrangements here have to be heard to be believed. Tons of Mellotron, synths and distorted sax and flute create a very unique sound. Dave Brock himself regards Warrior on the Edge of Time as the band's crowning achievement, and most progressive rock fans rate it next to Hall of the Mountain Grill as Hawkwind's best album.
