I got to take Tim and newbie (hehehe...) Brian, who happened to be an old friend of mine outside the lovely Satyricon for about 10 minutes before they played...
I was curious mainly because other than the Small Stone Records `Aerosmith Tribute comp.`(With this same line-up) is the only thing from these cats I have heard so far...other than the news I read about them and knowing Brian (Ex-Buzzoven/Acid King) I knew next to nothing...
After sucking down countless Budweiser`s and throwing my self out of wack (with everyone else...) Bowling all afternoon...and making the mistake of trying to get there 2 hours early to practice, I managed to muster up the energy to talk to all the bands, and drink myself into a coma...Here is how it went with wonderful, nice, heavy Men of Porn...
Rob: Who is the un-official leader of Men of Porn? Are you like the...(pointing to Tim...)
Brian: Well he`s the driving force behind it. He`s the original member...
Rob: the only original member or...
Tim: Yeah yeah...
Rob: Really? Right on...
Brian: Well it`s just a three piece...
Rob: Well I`ve never seen you guys so I don`t even know who does what... I assume that you play guitar and sing?...
Tim: Yeah, and sometimes were a three piece and sometimes a four piece...
Rob: Really?
Tim: Yeah...it goes back and forth...
Brian: ...last night we were, well actually the night before that, Eric from Lost Goat played guitar...
Rob: Well next time you�re in town, call me up man.`cause I can play guitar...
Tim: Yeah...
Rob: I can do it man!
Brian: Yeah, I`ve seen him play...he`s a lefty...it would look cool on-stage...
Rob: I can do anything...
Tim: Are you a southpaw?
Rob: I can do anything...
Tim: really?
Rob: yeah I`m left handed...
Tim: huh...
Rob: I can do it man...lefty, righty...hehehe...I can do anything!
Brian and Tim: Oh shit!!! hahaha....
Rob: Oh... So how did you get Brian in the band...
Brian: He called me UP! From St. Louis...or Chicago...
Rob: Was I talking to you? hehehe...(HAHAHA!)
Brian: Well I`m just going to go back inside...(walking away...)
Rob: No...dude...dude!!!
Tim: No wait!! Brian!! Come back!!! Here you go!!
(Tim grabs my arm and lets Brian Slug me in the gut...)
Rob: OOOhhh....I was expecting that...
Tim: hehhe...
Rob: Well I only see this guy every 3 or 4 months or so...so I have to give him as much shit as possible...
Brian: Either here or down there...
Rob: Yep...
Brian: Same shit...
Rob: So he called you up from Chicago?
Brian: They were on tour with Lost Goat and...
Tim: We were doing a tour with Lost Goat and High on Fire and we had hired drummer, a guy that was just hired to do the tour and he takes medication...we found out later on that he ended up NOT taking his medication while he was on tour...hehehe...and he flipped out...
Rob: Your drummer?
Brian: Yeah...not this drummer though...
Rob: Oh...OK...
Tim: He lost his mind and then bailed on us after the St. Louis show...
Rob: Well I remember when you lost your drummer...that was like four or five months ago right?
Tim: That was last March...We ended up using Lost Goat to help us finish the tour...but I had us a show in uh...San Francisco, supporting the Dwarves record release party, so I called them up and Erica and Tina from Lost Goat say--hey call up Brian...
Brian: (Life Commercial voice...) He�ll do IT! CALL BRIAN! HE`LL DO ANYTHING....
Everyone: ahahahahhaha!
Tim: So I said `we need a bass player` and he said `well, yeah...I`ll into help out...I`m not looking for anything long term right now- but I`m into doing it...
Rob: That was probably around the last time I saw you huh?
Tim: So we pull into town...
Rob: Because you seemed totally dis-interested in playing Bass all together...(speaking of the last time I saw Brian last Feb...)
Brian: Well I was just kinda...I didn`t have a space and I was kinda burned out and it wasn`t really happening...and just kind tired...
Tim: I know how that goes...
Brian: I needed new energy...last band I was in was Acid King...that was good energy for what they were doing and...
Rob: Is it good now? I mean...
Tim: We played that show with the Dwarves...and we were loading out and Brian`s like `you know this isn`t that bad and...
Brian: Yeah I was having gun...
Tim: got him back on stage and got him back into the rock...
Rob: That`s good, well your a fuckin` good bass player...
Brian: Once you have that needle laying on the ground for a while, you just gotta stick it back in...
Rob: Exactly...hehehe...
Tim: hehehe....
Brian: That charge, that electrifying energy...
Tim: You probably know that one...
Rob: So how long have the Men of Porn been a band then...
Tim: On and off since `96
Rob: Did you do anything prior to that?
Tim: I used to be in a band called Ritual Device I was the singer...
Rob: I am familiar with that...
Tim: The last thing we did was for Man`s Ruin...
Rob: Well the first couple of things I heard from Man`s Ruin was that and that Dale Crover 7" the Star Trek one...
Tim: I can play drums!!
Rob: He can play drums...
Tim: The best drummer in the world...
Brian: I think so...
Rob: That is what I think...Anything or planned to come out or...
Tim: We have an EP on coming out on Small Stone Records, the same people who put out the Aerosmith cover comp...probably in October...and that`s nice because we have Sean now...
Rob: How is he working out?
Tim: Good...
Brian: He sounds good and he is really into doing it too...
