As is now becoming regular fair, I drove Witch Mountain up to Seattle in THEE FUCKING SPACE VAN for this show. And as usual we got stuck in traffic and thought we were gonna be late for the show. Little did we know that traffic was the least of our worries. As the traffic cleared and we were cruising along I5 right on time Robwrong got a call on his cell phone from Sheila (his wife). She wanted to alert him to the fact that hed forgotten his guitar at the Satyricon the night before. DOH! FUCK! Panic ensued.
You see, while we were packing up the gear the night before, after the Electric Wizard, Warhorse, Witch Mountain and Yob show in Portland, this crazy, old, fat and drunk bitch was tormenting us. But mostly she was tormenting Robwrong to the point of frustration. Hes trying to pack the gear up and shes standing there yelling I am the devil, fuck the devil, dont you believe me? and Robs like Fuck off lady, I just dont care.. hehe Anyways, it was clearly her fault that the guitar got left on the sidewalk as we got the fuck away from the devil herself.
After some quick thinking we got ahold of Brandon (AKA Mr Red) and being the hero that he is he was able to swing by the Satyricon to pick up the guitar on the way up to Seattle. Thank SATAN that hangovers slow people down. He was the last person we knew of that was coming up to Seattle and was still in Portland (recovering from the night before). Witch Mountain was saved. The show would go on! (Keep in mind that Robwrong plays a lefty Strat so it would have been near impossible for him to borrow or rent a guitar at such short notice).. Thanks Mr Red!
The coolest thing about this show in particular was just how many StonerRock.com Community Members were in attendance. It was like half the audience!! (ok maybe Im exagerating a bit.. there were a lot of people there, but it was a very good SR.com turnout).. Heres who was there (using their forums aliases and in no particular order):
Up from Portland, Oregon: El Danno (me!), Robwrong, Nate Mountain, Mr Red, spacecakes, jenn, Randolfio & oatmealrock. Down from Vancouver, B.C.: Throatwobbler Mangrove, sapling, Jonan & Nolan. From Seattle: ElsaEE, Boogiemama, Stoned D, Capn Sludgehead & Jimbo. Also in attendance were Jack Endino (and his wife), Matt Pike (High on Fire) and my partners Aaron Emmel & Jadd Schickler of MeteorCity. (Note: if I forgot you, Im sorry, please email me at dan@stonerrock.com and tell me your username and Ill gladly add your name to the list)
Ok then.. Oh right.. THE MUSIC.. Right, Sorry First up were Sour Vein who got jipped somehow and only had time to play 3 songs. Oh well those 3 songs were true to form for Sour Vein and they rocked as usual. I definitely could have handled 3 more songs from them.

Next up were Witch Mountain who were, unfortunately, still guitarless! Panic ensued again! Should they set up and hope Mr Red shows up on time or ask Warhorse kindly to go on second? Uhh.. The first option seemed like the only option so they got busy setting up, slowly.. But even once they were set up completely and ready to play, still no Mr Red, still no guitar for Robwrong. DOH! And then SATAN smiled on Witch Mountain. Just as they were fiddling with the positions of their pedals for the 3rd time, pretending they were still setting up, in comes the guitar. BAM! Talk about a tense moment and impeccably perfect timing. Thanks again Mr Red. You saved the day.

Witch Mountain fucking smoked this time around. Compared to their last set in Seattle (at the same venue with Sour Vein and Sludgeplow) this one was quadruple the intensity and twice as tight. As with their set the night before in Portland the energy in the room took over and the band performed, and performed well. Like theyd been possessed. Excellent stuff. There were more than a few people who declared Witch Mountain the band of the night even though they were up against the power of Warhorse and the heaviness of Electric Wizard.
After a few between-band beers and conversations I start wondering what is that strange sound? OH! Warhorse has started playing. Since these fuckers tune so low (to G) you cant hardly hear them from more than 25 feet away. Its really weird. But once you get up nice and close you can feel the air being pushed by the speakers and you can feel the heaviness in your chest. Fucking awesome! Warhorse put on a stellar set again, very similar to the night before in Portland with the absolute highlight being Black Acid Prophecy. Killer song! Warhorse blew me away again.

While Warhorse was tearing down and Electric Wizard was setting up I got a chance to sit down with Jack Endino (prolific Sub Pop/Grunge sound engineer, solo artist, former member of Skin Yard and current bass player for Wellwater Conspiracy) and shoot the shit. Weve been talking over email for a while now so it was great to finally meet him in person. Except for the fact that he hated Warhorse (no original riffs, Jack thrives on original and new ways to play the guitar I personally think that Warhorse has originality coming out of their asses, but what do I know?) So I spent most of the conversation trying to convince him that Electric Wizard was gonna rule in a big way.. I also convinced him to get up closer to the stage to really give them a fair listen. He didnt like the Wizard either. Oh well. To each his own I say. It was great to shoot the shit with a likeminded person just the same.
Electric Wizard played a very different set from the night before in Portland, that much I can remember. What exactly did they play this night in Seattle? Fucked if I can remember for certain. But Im pretty sure it included Supercoven and several songs off of Dopethrone and even some earlier stuff. (Return Trip? Im not sure? I was pretty toasty warm by this point in the evening if you get my drift?!).. Electric Wizard FUCKING SLAYED! Much more energy than their set at the Satyricon and a varied set list really made seeing them a second time worthwhile.

After the show we ended up staying at friends of Johnnys (rhythm guitar player for Witch Mountain) in Kent. In a brand spanking new barbie doll land condominium. And by new I mean that they just moved in that afternoon. We christened the house with more drinking, smoking and conversation and then went to bed. Johnny couldnt sleep because I was snoring so loud and one of our hosts was simultaneously puking his guts out in an ajacent bathroom. Hehee So Johnny actually got up and recorded me snoring on a digital video camera. How embarrasing! Although, I think that footage should make it into the first Witch Mountain video so it might just make me famous.. haha! I AM THE SNORING GUY IN THE WITCH MOUNTAIN VIDEO FEAR MY WRATH! HeheheheIt was classic to wake up to Johnny sleeping soundly with a tshirt wrapped around his head and ears.. Hehe..
