Reviews: Captain Dog Rides Again ![]() High Bias Blind Dog has no designs on re-inventing the heavy power trio concept, but that doesn't mean it has no ambition. The Swedish band simply writes good songs and performs them with finesse and conviction. read more... Bully Magazine Ten bands that didn't suck in 2003 read more... Metal Nightmare Magazine Despite the name, this band ain't blind. They definitely know where they're going. continued... Lollipop 10 songs and EXACTLY fifty minutes of prog-tinged three-piece Swedish thrash, the vocalist seemingly aiming for a baffling midway point between L-G Petrov and RJ Dio, the guitars warm and comforting to anyone who knows previous MeteorCity releases, and the snare-drum sound nicked from St. Anger-era Lars (I hope these boys have good lawyers ’cause Metallica will totally sue over that shit!). continued... Vampire Magazine I can make this review very short by just saying that this is something you have to have in your collection! continued... Aversionline Here's some gritty 70's inspired heavy rock from this Swedish trio with a lot of your usual guitar grooves and melodic harmonies, the occasional presence of Hammond organ, a few slightly "progressive" sounding improvisational breaks, and so on. But a couple of things make this stand out from the pack. continued... Infectous Unease Radio Opening with an abrupt pummel of drums, then settling into an easy guitar groove, with punkish gruff vocals, sitting comfortably somewhere between Henry Rollins and Lemmy Kilmister, “Don’t Ask Me Where I Stand” launches Blind Dog’s “Captain Dog Rides Again” - a satisfying combination of melodic finesse and meat-&-potatoes rock. continued... Earshot Das Debütalbum jener schwedischen Stoner, welches verwirrenderweise mit "The Last Adventures Of Captain Dog" betitelt war, liegt mittlerweile bereits vier Jahre zurück - Zeit genug also, um Captain Dog wieder auferstehen und neue Abenteuer erleben zu lassen. continued... Bully Magazine For every bad, whiny, annoying, fake, manufactured hard rock or punk band we're subjected to on a daily basis, the Swedes have a genuine, balls-to-the-wall, super-heavy, outfit that knocks you on their ass. Installment #367 is Blind Dog. continued... UNM Daily Lobo In the beginning there was the Holy Trinity of stoner rock: Kyuss, Fu Manchu and Monster Magnet. These bands paved the way for heavy-lidded groove and doom bands from around the world. continued... StonerRockChick.com Sweden’s Blind Dog is back with a vengeance with Captain Dog Rides Again, one of my most highly-anticipated albums of the year. I’m not one bit disappointed, they’ve improved on their sound and song-writing... continued... Directory of Dirge "Stoner Rock" has a lot to answer for. It has produced almost as many piss poor genre clones as the tedium riddled death metal style. It is such revelation that allows me to smile (quite insanely) as I listen to Blind Dog's second effort... continued... Rock Hard Horror Holy shit. Blind Dog brings back the magic that rock had in the 70's by hammering you on the head with their heavy end Zeppelinesque beats and Sabbath-like riffs. continued... Chaos Realm A good ways back, James Gang released quite a little platter called "Rides Again." It kicked total & complete @ss, as did most hard rock albums in the '70's. So, when a band comes along these days & talks about doing some "riding again," I say you'd better be able to get up in the saddle & ride with the big boys. continued... Live 4 Metal It took about five seconds of opening track, “Don’t ask me where I Stand,” to know that Blind Dog’s Captain Dog Rides Again would be right up my alley. continued... peacedogman.com Please excuse the random comments on building detonation below. Somehow, they seemed appropriate for the review of this album. continued... Metal Invader The case of "Captain Dog Rides Again" belongs to those rare occasions that I have a difficulty in writing a review for. But it is a pleasurable kind of trouble, since it’s one of those cases that an album is so good that I feel confined by the limited space that a review offers in order to describe the greatness of this record. continued... Kevin McHugh There’s been an ever-building avalanche of praise for Blind Dog’s newest effort, ‘Captain Dog Rides Again,’ across the internet lately, and I’m only too happy to add my voice to it. continued... << back to audiography |
