John Garcia has a track on the "Welcome to Meteor City" compilation album
due out from Meteor City Records.
It's different than what you would expect but yet still has all the
intensity you expect from John Garcia. The rest of the comp rocks very
solidly (I should know since I was involved with the project :-).

There have been a lot of rumors floating around about Kyuss reforming. To the
best of my knowledge this is not true.
What is true is that Man's Ruin Records is releasing a CD
with both Kyuss and Queens of the Stone Age material on it.
The songs are:
- Into The Void
- Fatso Forgetso
- Fatso Forgetso Phase II (Flip The Phase)
- If Only Everything
- Born to Hula
- Spiders and Vinegaroons
The first 3 songs are from Kyuss. The last 3 are by Queens of
the Stone Age, Josh Homme's band that was formerly called Gamma Ray (see
below).
The Kyuss tunes have all been released before. Into the Void and Fatso
Forgotso were out on 10" vinyl from man's ruin. Fatso Forgotso Phase II
(Flip the Phase) is the excellent song Flip the Phase, which was on the
One Inch Macn cd single.
The first two Queens of the Stone Age tunes were out on the Gamma Ray 7"
vinyl (also from Man's Ruin). The last has not been released before but
was on their demo tape.
You can find this cd and a lot of other very cool Kyuss-related stuff
here: http://www.meteorcity.com.
(thanks go to viix@erols.com for the info!)

A new live Kyuss CD is out. It's a bootleg of a show in Austin, TX.
The CD is called Mercurious Pools (cool name) and can be had from Asylum News.
-
Mondo Generator (a band with ex-Kyuss bassist, Nick Olivieri) broke up after

Jon Garcia is the front man for a new band called Slo-Burn. They are
very good and also happen to sound a bit like Kyuss (which is probably
due to John's voice being rather distinctive). They're releasing a record
on the Malicious Vinyl label (6607 Sunset Boulevard/Los Angeles, CA
90028, phone number: 213-465-2700). They are currently touring on the
OzzFest on the second stage. If you can check them out, do so!
Check out an interview I did with
John Garcia about Slo-Burn. It's quite extensive and he talks quite
candidly about a lot of things.
I saw Slo-Burn play on March 18'th in San Francisco and let me tell you
it was an absolutely amazing set. These boys fucking rule.

Josh Homme had formed a band, Gamma Ray, but since that name was
already taken by a German "power metal" group, he changed the name to
Queens of the Stone Age. Man's Ruin has a Gamma Ray 7" single with
two songs on it: "If Only Everything" and "Born To Hula."
Under the Queens name they have a song, 18 A.D. that is on a European
compilation called Burn One Up (on the RoadRunner label). You can buy
it on the net from CD Europe but
it costs about $50 so be prepared to shell out the bucks for it...
You can also try RoadRunner
directly. Supposedly you can just mail-order it from them.

Eddie Glass and Ruben Romano have split from Fu Manchu and for a while
Scott Reeder was playng bass for their new group, NEBULA. They now
have someone else on bass and are playing a fair bit in the LA area.
I saw them play (with Scott on bass) and it rocked. The sound has a
good dose of Fu Manchu but it's still unique.
-
Scott Reeder is on
the web with his own page. Yeah it really is him. Check out his web
page but don't deluge him with e-mail unless you've really got something to
say. I talked with Scott a bit after his last show with Nebula (see above)
and he said he's a little burned out on the music industry so he's taking
time off for now.
-
Brant Bjork filled in on drums for Fu Manchu's latest 10" on Man's
Ruin. It has a cover of Godzilla and a few new songs. It definitely
rocks. Brant is supposedly not a permanent member of Fu Manchu
however.

Man's Ruin records released a Kyuss 10 inch album with two songs. The
first is a cover of Sabbath's "Into the Void" and the other is called
"Fatso Forgotso". The address for Man's Ruin is:

San Francisco, CA. 94107

There's a split (Wool/Kyuss) 7" out on Bongload records. It
has the Kyuss song "Shine" which has also appeared on a metal
compilation called "Metallurgy" (from the UK). It's a weird song.
Bongload records is on the net so
you're just one click away from more info.
-
There is a compilation called "Metallurgy" from Britain that has the
song Shine on it as well. It's expensive but comes with a 192 page
booklet that has about 8 pages or so on Kyuss. Pretty cool.
-
Scott Reeder also collaborated with Jason Newstead (Metallica), Devin
Townsend, and Dale Crover (Melvins) on 4 songs. As the band "Tree of
the Sun", they recorded the tracks "Phoenix" and "Athena/Red" and as
"Blastula" they recorded "Contain Us" and "Spaztech". Given that both
Newstead and Reeder were on Bass, you can bet this stuff is bottom heavy
and tuned way down. No idea when or where these tracks might show up,
just keep your eyes open.

A Kyuss cover band exists in the Boston area. They don't play very often
but when they do they use the name "Sons of Kyuss". According to people
who know the band it's simply their way to pay tribute to Kyuss. The band
is made up of members of Stompbox and Roadsaw. One of the guys in the band
wrote me e-mail and said it was all done with Josh and Scott's approval.
