Rock �n� roll to save my soul and a fondness of singing about the joys of drugs are pretty much what constitutes Activator. Musically, it�s got a familiar desert rock vibe. Vocalist Jason has that low-end John Garcia purr. Guitarists Derek and J Ro seem to specialize in songs that have the attitude of Kyuss� �Thumb� and the speed of �Green Machine.� But it�s not all deja-vu on Both Barrels. It�s a drunken lurch with bursts of frantic energy interspersed between lines like �I woke up today in a twisted rage.� There�s enough on the album to please fans of classic fuzz rock.

When trying to think of what Activator sound like try thinking of the twisted, �in your face fury� of Pantera, the hard hitting, rock influenced aggressiveness of Queens of the Stone Age and some aspects of old school punk all thrown in to a giant, very angry, very sharp blender. The result of this is a raw, pure-blooded sound that will certainly please the masses.
