Chaos Realm

by Ray Dorsey

A good ways back, James Gang released quite a little platter called "Rides Again." It kicked total & complete @ss, as did most hard rock albums in the '70's. So, when a band comes along these days & talks about doing some "riding again," I say you'd better be able to get up in the saddle & ride with the big boys. BLIND DOG is one of the few bands these days who can ride with the big boys, because they ARE big boys! This Swedish power trio's 1st album was a rip-roaring destroyer in the best Budgie/Sabbath/Zep tradition and this 2nd one only ups the ante. Adding a more raw, aggressive flavour that accents the heaviness, you've just gotta love that nasty Flying V tone from Joakim here. But don't think the band has lost any of the colours or textures that made the vintage Budgie comparisons so awesome on the first record. Man, just check out "Follow The Fools" or how about the final track, "Be The Same." Talk about a totally original epic! This is the kinda stuff that would have been at home on Side 3 of "Physical Graffiti," I am not kidding you...piano, acoustic guitar, awesome stuff. Without any filler from "Don't Ask Me Where I Stand" all the way through, this is an organic power trio on all cylinders and they've presented us with an album is a-knockin' on Dirty Power's front door! RAWK WITH DEPTH!
